About Us

My name is Eddie Sharpe, founder of Iconic Stackable Dolls. Our story started back in 2004, when I fulfilled my dream to travel the Trans- Siberian Express from Moscow to Beijing, one of the world's great railways journey's. This epic journey takes 7 days and nights, crossing Russia, the Gobi Desert in Mongolia, before finally arriving in Beijing. We flew to Moscow, spent 2 days there, caught the train, and then finished the trip with 3 days in China. With the benefit of hindsight, I regret not spending more time in Moscow, because there was so much to see and do.

Get under the table!

Baby Boomers lived through the Cold-War when the prospect of nuclear war was a real and ever constant danger. I recall watching film footage of a house being blown apart by a nuclear blast. I also recall being told to get under the table in the event of a nuclear attack. Even at that age, it was hard to believe that our old dinner table would save the day! Russia was viewed as the enemy and Moscow was the center of the evil empire. Back in those days, I saw everything in black and white terms. Nowadays, I realise that there's a little bit of black, a little bit of white, with a huge ocean of grey in between. Travel broadens the mind and introduces us to new perspectives. Sometimes it makes you appreciate how fortunate you are, whereas other times, one is forced to examine deeply entrenched beliefs.

Plant a seed and watch it grow

When I was in Moscow, I gifted my niece Lucy, a matryoshka doll as a souvenir - and this is when the idea of a stackable doll business was first planted. Many years later, that same seed germinated and has continued to grow.  I am a free spirit who does not like to be confined by societal norms, and our company represents those same values. Nowadays, I have a photo of Lucy on my desk, proudly holding her matryoshka doll from Moscow. That doll instantly reminds me of that amazing trip, all those years ago. Moreover, I know that doll instantly rekindles happy childhood memories for Lucy, and it also opened a whole new world for her at
that time. It was also the catalyst for an interest in ballet, the arts, travel, and going to the theater.

Grandpa Wallace Morfey

When I was 9-years old Grandpa Morfey took me to one side and gave me some valuable advice.

‘When you get to a certain age, it won’t matter what you have, so long as you are comfortable and have a roof over your head. What will matter is what have you done with your life? Whatever you do, don’t follow the crowd, but do something different.’

This is great advice and I try to live by it.

Our Philosophy

'Do Different' is our company motto, and a doll inside a doll inside a doll represents the different stages of life. We believe that life should be lived, opportunities taken, and once the human psyche expands, it never contracts. The moment soon passes, but great memories live forever.

Genuine Quality

Our authentic stackable dolls are made in St Petersburg, Russia. The workshop employs 25 full time artists, and up to 100 people are employed to harvest the wood and carve dolls.
